Hotel Consulting Services in Ghana

Hospitality management consulting built for Ghanaian properties: independent hotels, boutique hotels, guest houses and resorts that are ready to compete with international brands on service, efficiency and rate.

Hotel Operational Audit & Assessment

An independent, unflinching review of how your property actually runs, benchmarked against international hotel standards rather than local habit. We walk the building, watch a full service cycle and tell you exactly where guests are being lost and where money is leaking.

  • Full property walk-through across all departments
  • SOP review and gap analysis against brand standard
  • Guest experience and online review benchmarking
  • Written findings with a costed priority report

Hotel Service Excellence Training

Your product may be world class, but guests remember how your team made them feel. We design and deliver service culture programmes on property in Ghana, aligning front-line staff with the standard your rate is asking guests to pay for.

  • Front office and guest relations training
  • Complaint handling and service recovery framework
  • Voice of the Customer integration
  • Train-the-trainer model so standards outlast the engagement

Six Sigma Process Optimization

Using Lean Six Sigma methodology, we systematically remove waste, reduce service failures and build repeatable processes that hold up when the general manager is off property. Discipline that cuts cost without cutting the guest experience.

  • DMAIC process mapping by department
  • Labour cost and scheduling analysis
  • Check-in and check-out flow optimization
  • Measurable KPI targets and tracking

Guest Experience Consulting

Guest experience consulting for Ghanaian hotels that are winning bookings but losing repeat business. We map the guest journey from enquiry to post-stay review, then rebuild the moments that decide whether a guest returns or writes a one-star review.

  • End-to-end guest journey mapping
  • Review, reputation and response management
  • Arrival, in-room and departure standards
  • Mystery-guest style diagnostic visits

Hotel Revenue Optimization

Hotel revenue optimization for Ghana focuses on what most independent properties never audit: rate structure, channel mix, distribution cost and the upsell opportunities sitting unused at the front desk every single day.

  • Rate structure and segmentation review
  • OTA versus direct booking channel mix analysis
  • Front desk upsell and ancillary revenue programmes
  • Departmental KPI and performance reporting

Boutique & Pre-Opening Consulting

Boutique hotel consulting in Ghana for owners building, converting or repositioning a property. We put the operating spine in place, standards, staffing and systems, before the first guest arrives, so opening week does not become a recovery project.

  • Standard operating procedure development
  • Staffing models and org structure design
  • Pre-opening critical path and readiness review
  • Recruitment support and behavioural interviewing

Why Ghana’s Hotels Need Operational Consulting

Ghana’s hotel sector is not short of investment. Accra alone has seen a decade of new build and conversion, from serviced apartments in Airport Residential and Cantonments to boutique properties in Osu and Labone. Kumasi, Takoradi and Tema have followed corporate demand. What has not kept pace, in property after property, is the operating discipline that turns a good building into a profitable hotel.

That gap is where a hotel operations consultant earns their fee. Most independent hotels in Ghana are competing on the same booking platforms, in the same search results and against the same guest expectations as internationally branded properties, but without a corporate standards team, a regional quality auditor or a training department behind them. The building is comparable. The operating system is not.

The gap between occupancy and performance

Owners usually call when occupancy looks acceptable but the numbers underneath do not work. Payroll runs high because rosters are built on habit rather than on demand. Housekeeping productivity has never been measured, so nobody knows whether fifteen rooms per attendant is generous or punishing. Food and beverage runs at a loss that gets quietly absorbed into rooms revenue. Guests leave polite reviews that mention slow check-in, inconsistent breakfast or an air conditioning unit that was reported twice and never fixed.

None of that is a Ghanaian problem. It is an operational maturity problem, and it responds to exactly the same methods used to fix it in Toronto, Dubai or London: measure the process, remove the variation, train the standard, then hold the line with reporting that a general manager can actually run every week.

What international standard actually means

International standard is a phrase used loosely in hospitality marketing. In practice it means something specific and unglamorous. It means a documented standard operating procedure for every guest-facing process. It means a service recovery framework so a front desk agent knows what they are empowered to do at 11pm without calling the owner. It means preventive maintenance scheduled before equipment fails, not after a guest complains. It means departmental KPIs reviewed weekly rather than a P&L reviewed monthly, by which point the month is already lost.

For properties pursuing or defending a star grading, this matters commercially as well as operationally. The Ghana Tourism Authority licenses and grades accommodation from one star to five star, alongside guest houses and budget facilities, and the assessment looks at the operation, not only the fixtures. You can read the Authority’s own overview of accommodation licensing and classification at ghana.travel/accommodation.

Built for independent and boutique operators

Jnola Worldwide works with hotel owners, investors, general managers, hotel directors and property owners who want candid diagnosis rather than a flattering report. Engagements are scoped to the property, not sold from a template, and the deliverable is always something a management team can act on the following Monday: a prioritised list, a process map, a training plan, a reporting pack.

The practice is deliberately Ghana-first. Accra is the base, Ghanaian properties are the client, and the work is delivered on site rather than over email from another continent. Expansion into the wider West African market is planned for later phases of the firm’s growth, but the focus today is Ghana.

Start With a Free 90-Minute Diagnostic

Every engagement begins with a no-obligation discovery call and a complimentary ninety minute walkthrough of your property. You will leave that conversation with observations you can use whether or not we work together.

Julius N. Brown, Hotel Management Consultant

Julius N. Brown is a hospitality operations expert with more than two decades of frontline and senior management experience across some of North America’s most demanding hotel environments, now applying that discipline to Ghana’s hotel sector as both consultant and diaspora investor. He is a Six Sigma Green Belt professional and a former Marriott leadership professional.

As Support Services Manager at Delta Hotels by Marriott, a full-service, unionised, 400+ room airport and conference property, Julius oversaw IT operations, loss prevention, parking and guest experience platforms. Before that he led the hotel’s guest services department through a full service culture transformation, introducing Lean Six Sigma methodology and founding a cross-functional Innovation Team of department heads and directors.

Earlier, Julius served as Senior Location Manager at Hertz Toronto Airport, leading 8 managers and over 100 associates, driving a 15% reduction in labour costs, a 98% reduction in sick calls and sustained NPS performance at 150% of prior year, results that speak to the power of operational discipline and people-centred leadership.

His brand background spans Marriott, Starwood, Le Méridien and Delta Hotels, which is what allows a Jnola Worldwide audit to benchmark a Ghanaian property against the standards those brands enforce internally. Julius now brings that systematic, results-driven approach to independent and boutique hotels in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Tema and Tamale, closing the distance between current performance and international standard.

Our Consulting Approach

Every engagement begins with an honest conversation and ends with measurable outcomes. No retainer padding, no generic playbooks, no report that sits in a drawer.

Discovery Call

We start with a no-obligation conversation and a complimentary 90-minute walkthrough diagnostic of your property, to understand your goals and the operational challenges you are facing. If we are a fit, we scope an engagement that reflects your actual needs and quote a fixed price.

On-Site Hotel Assessment

We conduct an in-depth, on-property operational audit, observing a full service cycle, interviewing department leads and reviewing your guest review data and cost lines. The findings are candid, specific and prioritised by impact.

Execution & Delivery

Depending on scope we deliver written reports, on-property training, process maps or embedded advisory support. We measure outcomes rather than effort, and we stay until the standard holds without us in the building.

Hotel Consulting in Ghana: FAQ

What does a hotel operations consultant in Ghana actually do?

We review how your property runs day to day across front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, maintenance and back of house, then identify where service is failing, where cost is leaking and where revenue is being left on the table. The output is a written operational audit with prioritised recommendations, followed by hands-on support to implement them.

Which cities in Ghana do you serve?

We are based in Accra and deliver on-site work across Greater Accra and Tema, the Ashanti Region from Kumasi, the Western Region from Takoradi, the Central Region tourism corridor around Cape Coast and Elmina, and the Northern Region from Tamale. Remote advisory and training support is available anywhere in Ghana.

How much does a hotel operational audit in Ghana cost?

Fees are scoped per property rather than sold as a fixed package, because a fifteen room boutique guest house in Osu and a two hundred room conference hotel in Tema need very different levels of work. The discovery call and the initial ninety minute walkthrough diagnostic are complimentary, and you receive a written proposal with a fixed price and defined deliverables before any engagement begins.

Do you work with small boutique hotels and guest houses, or only large properties?

Both. Independent and boutique properties are the core of the practice. Smaller hotels and guest houses in Ghana often gain the most from operational consulting, because they compete directly with international brands on the same booking platforms without a corporate standards team behind them.

How long does a typical consulting engagement take?

An operational audit is normally completed within two to four weeks from the site visit, including the written report. Service culture and training programmes usually run over six to twelve weeks so new standards are embedded and measured, not just presented in a classroom. Longer-term advisory retainers are available for owners repositioning, rebranding or expanding.

Can you help our hotel prepare for Ghana Tourism Authority star classification?

Yes, in the sense that we prepare your operation, documentation and physical standards to the level assessors expect, and we identify the gaps that typically hold properties back. Licensing and star grading themselves are issued by the Ghana Tourism Authority, not by consultants, so we prepare you for their process rather than replace it.

Do you deliver hotel service excellence training for Ghanaian staff teams?

Yes. Training is delivered on property and covers guest relations, front office standards, complaint handling and service recovery. Every programme includes a train-the-trainer element so your supervisors and heads of department can sustain the standard after the engagement ends.
